Review

Once again I enjoyed this entertaining novel, the second in this series. Trav and Dylan were an unlikely couple, but really worked well together even when they were being sarcastic or snarky because that was the way they communicated.

When Dylan runs into trouble on the job and doesn’t know who he can trust, he runs for help from the guy he considers a pain in the backside and possibly not someone who follows the law, but at the same time, he knows he can trust Trav to keep him safe.

These two have a little history, a brief encounter in a bar and then a misunderstanding on a mutual job, it’s caused lots of tension over the years, and Trav has made the most of the time to stick it to Dylan whenever he can. Despite this, they both have a degree of respect for each other. Trav is full of sarcasm and snark, but this is how he tries to keep his heart from being broken. Now they’ve been thrown together, they have to readjust their feelings for each other and what they want for the future. But first Mike Bravo Ops needs to uncover how far the corruption goes in Dylan’s team and within law enforcement.

This was a fun read with OTT action and plenty of bad guys that need to be taken out to keep Dylan and the team safe.

I enjoyed catching up with the rest of the team they provided much entertainment.

Synopsis

TRAV

I remember the first time I met Dylan Rodriguez. It was one sweaty encounter I’ll never forget.

The second time we met, he arrested me. I can still see the hot scowl on his beautiful face as he slapped handcuffs on me and realized I was … me.

Dylan’s main goal in life is to forget he ever met me. My goal is to make him mine.

Turns out, I’m better at this game than he is.

DYLAN

When my law enforcement career falls to pieces in front of my own eyes, I don’t know who I can trust.

I have nowhere to go. No one to turn to.

Asking Trav for help is a last resort, but I’m desperate.

If he can’t get me out of this mess, I may as well turn myself over to the guys hunting me down.

I’m not sure which will be more difficult: protecting my life or my heart.

Because when it comes to love, my heart wants what my brain doesn’t. It wants Travis West.

Excerpt

I should give motivational speeches. Three ways to tank your career with one botched raid.

One: Sleep with your target.

Two: Find absolutely no evidence at the scene.

And three: Sleep with your fucking target.

As I stare into the interrogation room behind a two-way mirror at the man who, in my own words, fucks like a god, I want to recoil in embarrassment and shame.

Definition of irony: Newly promoted DEA agent has sex with drug smuggler.

“He’s asking for you,” Special Agent Walker says. “He knows you by name.”

And thanks to the file I was given, I know his full name. Travis West.

I’m regretting giving him my name. Then he wouldn’t be able to ask for me.

I should’ve walked away the minute he pulled his amazing cock out of my ass. No names. No words needed.

“Do you know him?” Walker asks.

Intimately. “We met once. At a bar.” Where he made me come so hard I almost blacked out. I’m not telling my senior officer that.

“Well, he’s the only one who hasn’t lawyered up, but he’s refusing to speak to anyone but you.”

I grunt. How am I supposed to go in there and act like I haven’t had his dick inside me? Worse yet, how am I supposed to stop him from spilling our history, however brief, while I’m questioning him?

My boss will be watching.

Maybe if we’d found the drugs, my unwitting tryst with a suspect could be forgiven. But that ship was clean. How could I have been so wrong when I was convinced that Jason Carter was one of the biggest drug lords in the US with ties to Mexican cartels.

I want to tell my boss I won’t get any information from interrogating Trav, but I already know what his response will be. You don’t know until you try.

Then Trav glances up and smiles at his reflection in the glass, but I know he’s actually directing it at me. Like he knows I’m about to cave.

“Okay. I’m going in.” And on my way, I’m making a new rule for myself: No more random, anonymous hookups.

I enter the interrogation room and try to stay passive, but his sexy voice immediately throws me off kilter. Not because of the deep rumble of his tone, but because of what he says.

“Do you think you could take these off?” He lifts his hands where he’s cuffed to the table by a chain. “I’m not used to handcuffs being around my wrists.”

Fucker. He knows what he’s doing. Because now all I can picture is him fucking me while I’m restrained.

“Sure.” I guess I’ve decided to play good cop. Passive and friendly, but not flirty.

I release him, and he rubs his wrists like they’re so sore.

“You weren’t cuffed for that long.”

“I know, but I’ve seen people do that in movies.” He leans back in his seat. “So how have you been? I didn’t think I was going to see you again.”

“This isn’t a social chat. I need you to tell me everything you know.”

“Find any drugs yet?” That tiny twitch of his lips tells me he’s in on the operation. He knows what’s what.

“What makes you think we’re looking for drugs?”

“You’re the Drug Enforcement Administration. I’d hope you were looking for drugs, or I have to tell you, you might not be very good at your job.”

“But I’m sure you’re good at yours. What is your job exactly?”

“Ooh, smooth interrogation tactic there, Dylan.”

“My name is Agent Rodriguez.” My stupid voice cracks on my last name, making it basically unintelligible.

“What’s that? Rogue-riguez? That sounds promising.” He leans forward. “You willing to go rogue to get the answers you want?”

Rodriguez. And no. I’m sure I could cut a deal for you and your friends, though … if you cooperate. You were the muscle, right? Hired to protect the cargo without actually knowing what you were protecting?”

“Are you implying I’m a dumbass who’s unaware of my surroundings?”

Now I lean in, locking eyes with him across the table. “Are you telling me you know more than you’re letting on?”

Trav smiles. “Damn. Your interrogation skills really are on point. I’m impressed.”

“Impressed enough to tell me what you know?”

“I know lots of things. Useless trivia, mostly. Do you like trivia nights? There’s a really laid-back bar I like to go to when they have trivia. It’s called the Aqua. You ever been?”

The Aqua doesn’t do trivia nights. I should know. It’s where he dicked me out in a bathroom stall.

“Can’t say that I have.”

It’s not like the other guys in my department are unaware that I’m gay, but I like to keep my private life, well, private at work. They all know, but I don’t want them to know details—like where I frequent. I get the feeling that was Trav’s way of gauging whether I’m out or not, so I shut him down. Maybe then he won’t hint at what happened between us.

My job depends on that staying quiet.

Trav eyes me, and I get the impression he’s trying to figure out if I’m denying it for the sake of denying it or if I’m closeted.

Trav glances at his watch and then back at me. “I want to cut a deal.”

NOTHING SPECIAL

by Casey Cox

Excerpt Reveal

Release Date: June 27, 2022

Cover Design: Wicked by Design

Genre: M/M Romance
Trope: Best friends to lovers, opposites attract, feel-good, satire

Synopsis

They don’t write romance novels about guys like me…

Benji:
Trust me, I know. Crafting swoon-worthy happily ever afters is literally my day job. Being a quirky introvert with an overactive imagination, underwhelming social skills, and a few pounds overweight, I’m no leading man.

My best friend, though? He’s total cover model, call the plumber because I just flooded my basement material. He’s also outgoing, charismatic, free-spirited, and basically the best guy ever.

I may know romance, but I’m no dummy when it comes to reality. I’m nothing special. And the truth is, a guy like Darren would never fall for someone like me.

Darren:
I’m the poster child for failure to launch. Twenty-seven, didn’t make it in Hollywood, forced to slump my sorry self back home to Australia with my tail in between my legs.

The only bright spot in my life is nabbing the apartment next door to my best friend, Benji. He’s like no one I’ve ever met. Genuine. Sensitive. Nurturing. A talented author. An amazing cook. So freaking handsome. And yeah…I am so stupidly in love with him it’s not even funny.

When Benji needs some inspiration to clear his writer’s block, I gladly help out. He wants to write a friends-to-lovers romance, and hello, I’m his best friend. This should be a cinch. It’s not as if he’s suddenly going to fall in love with me. I’m nothing special. And the fact is, a guy like Benji could do so much better than someone like me.

Nothing Special is a stand-alone best-friends-to-lovers MM romance with two lovable (yet totally clueless) besties, gray yoga pants hotness, sweet midnight walks, an apartment block filled with nosy neighbours, and one swoonariffic (and oh so special) happily ever after!

Excerpt

My tongue slid past Darren’s lips and slipped into his mouth. Warm waves floated through me. Our heads bobbed together. Effortlessly, we found the perfect lower lip/upper lip groove. Moving rhythmically to a silent song only we could hear. My chest tingled. Goosebumps speckled across my forearms. I was exploring my best friend’s mouth. Holy shit. Talk about unexpected.

Tonight had produced a number of surprises. Me taking Darren up on his offer for a midnight stroll. Me answering his question on the bridge, sharing a kernel of personal information no one else knew about me. Me now swimming in the velvety heat of his mouth.

Had all these little things been leading up to this?

No, of course not. This was all part of Darren’s Project P2XZ5… Okay. Excuse me if my brain was a little scrambled at the moment. Kinda hard to concentrate when Darren’s tongue was doing this insanely hot, twisty-flicky thing inside my mouth.

His fingers traveled into my hair, forcing our heads even closer. Our mouths were fully opened now, our tongues tangling, taking turns for dominance. The kiss was deepening. My body felt like it was on fire. I was putting everything I had into this kiss, and Darren was giving as good as he got.

God, he good kissed. Shit. I meant, he kissed God good. Gah. Third time lucky—God, he was a good kisser. When did words get so hard?

Speaking of hard—we both were. I didn’t back away, crushing my body against his. He rutted against me in return. It created an intense friction, like two sticks being rubbed together to start a fire. We were combustible.

A crow squawking off in the distance startled us, and we broke apart. He looked as dishevelled as I felt.

“Whoa.” He brought his fingers to his lips, like he was checking for physical proof of what we had just done.

I licked my lips, doing the same. I could feel the imprint of his stubble as I traced the seam of my bottom lip with my tongue.

Yep. Confirmed. We had, in fact, kissed.

“Was that okay?” I asked just as Darren looked up at me and said, “That was the best kiss of my life.”

A flare of happiness erupted in my chest. “Really?” I asked, still in a daze from the kiss. Now even more unsure of everything, hearing Darren make his admission. Confession? Compliment?

Darren shuffled from foot to foot, looking almost a little apprehensive. I took a cue from his playbook from the bridge earlier, reaching down to take his hand in mine. He stilled. I hooked a finger under his chin. His blue eyes found mine. “That was the best kiss of my life, too, Dare Bear.”

His just-been-kissed lips twitched. “Really?”

I loved how we always seemed to mirror each other with words and actions. It wasn’t just a tonight thing, either. It was how we were whenever we were together. “Yeah. Well, best, or a very close second to the sloppy kiss Lucy Aitken made me give her in third grade when she bribed me for it in exchange for a lick of her Paddle Pop ice cream.”

Darren raised an eyebrow as if to say, You allowed your eight-year-old self to get bribed for a kiss?

I shot him a look back, explaining, Gimme a break. It was a really freaking hot day.

He smiled, brushing the back of his fingers against my face. I let my eyes drift shut, allowing myself to relish in this moment.

Knowing it would be brief.

Knowing it would never be repeated.

Knowing it was simply Darren’s way of helping me out with my writer’s block.

Blog Tour: Excerpt & Review: Infinite Bond by L.Rose

This novel had me up all night, my just one more chapter became nearly 90% of the novel with only hours before I had to get up for work, I managed to put it down, albeit reluctantly.

I am a fan of L. Rose’s Paranormal works and this one completely pulled me into the world she has built, full of magic and supernatural beings, power-hungry bad guys and wonderful main characters.

When we meet Micah he has no knowledge of the supernatural beings that are all around him, he is a young guy with little self-esteem who is struggling to make ends meet whilst paying for his deadbeat mother’s gambling addiction. I liked Micah straight away and grew to love him throughout the novel. A genuine person who wants to make something of himself, but just hasn’t had the opportunity. When he suddenly finds himself with powers he never knew existed, he is thrown headfirst into a completely new world full of beings he thought were only things of myths and legend.

His roommates Cade, Zeke and Hyde all have very different reactions to him as their world is turned upside down by their need to protect him and eventually make him theirs. I adored these guys, even Cade who makes things very difficult for Micah to start with. I loved exploring the connection these four had and loved how each character changed and grew as their relationships with each other did. As Micah gets to know his roommates, he starts to come into his own and starts slowly at first to believe in himself, as he comes into his powers, the extent of them is mindblowing to all those around him.

Micah’s one and only friend, Tanika is the one to help introduce him to his new life, she was a great friend, most of the time, but there were times she annoyed the hell out of me. Luckily she turned out to be a true friend, and we all need one of those, but Micah did especially.

This is a book I’ll be reading again, I enjoyed it that much. A great MMMM romance with plenty of romance, sex, excitement & danger.

About the book

With three hearts to worry about, as well as my own, time will tell if I’m up for the task.

Infinite Bond, an all-new magical M/M/M/M paranormal romance from bestselling author L. Rose is available now!

With three hearts to worry about, as well as my own, time will tell if I’m up for the task.

I’ve always been normal. Okay, maybe more of an average guy, who’s quiet and awkward. Just someone who’s trying to survive living in my trailer while dodging my mom’s debt collectors.

Everything changes when a power within me surfaces, and my eyes are thrown wide open.

Humans aren’t the only ones who walk the earth.

Read that again, but slowly. I know. I can hardly believe it either.

There’s more. With my newfound power, I’m expected to attend a college to learn how to use my slightly terrifying and temperamental telekinetic ability, a power I apparently should have received when I was a kid, not at twenty-one.

Throw in my new roommates and my brain threatens to overload while my heart can’t figure out who or what it wants. All my traitorous heart is sure of is that it’s greedy and beats far too fast when any of the three not-completely-human men are around.

Not that my wanting will do me any good. There’s Cade who hates me, Zeke who’s super nice and understanding but way out of my league, and Hyde who’s as scary as he is quiet.

I have no idea if I’ll survive the changes, but I really want to. Just wait and see for yourself. As soon as you meet these guys, you’ll understand and see our undeniable connection. Just be warned, nothing but death will stop me protecting my hearts.

Excerpt

Reaching down, I picked up the bag and noticed the duffle on the floor, so I grabbed it as well. The weight of both had me stumble a little to the side. My face heated. Maybe it would be best to run for my room and hide in there until Sebastian pried me away for classes.

Groaning inwardly, I flicked my gaze to Zeke, who stood there with his arms crossed over his broad chest, smirking.

“Are you shy?”

My pulse raced, my stomach churned, and I wanted to… God, hide once again. “Yes.” I nodded. “And, um, awkward around meeting people.”

Why?

Why did I say that?

My blush deepened and I was close to throwing up.

“Got it. Look, I’m going to give it to you straight.”

Now I wanted to pee.

“Yes?”

“Cade is an asshole. Hyde is…. Well, he’s a dick sometimes too. Don’t let their attitudes get you down. You’ll get used to them.”

In other words, I would have to deal with more bullies. Great.

Grazing my bottom lip with my top teeth, I nodded. What else could I say to that? There wasn’t anything. What I wanted to do was curl into an emotional ball and rock back and forth over the daunting situation I was now in. My stomach rumbled and twisted. At least Zeke couldn’t see my shaky hands since I was holding both bags tightly.

“Hey” was said softly, but I still jolted at the closeness of his voice. My eyes snagged on his feet in front of me first before they traveled up his long legs to his chest. A shiver raked over me when Zeke cupped one side of my neck. “It’s not all bad here. Promise.”

I nodded again, not convinced my voice would work from the feel of his warm hand on my skin.

Why was I reacting to his close proximity? Why did my heart beat faster than it had in fright? Why did I have the urge to hug him?

It was crazy. No, beyond that. But I couldn’t get my mind to work to find the word I was looking for.

“Get some sleep. I’m sure you’re wrecked from the night.”

With another nod, which he chuckled at, Zeke pulled his hand away. I watched him through the curtain of my fringe as he walked to the kitchenette. Before I could make a fool of myself again, I raced to my door and turned the handle. I walked into the door when it didn’t open, smacking into it hard.

My face burned, the blush spreading down my neck when I heard a low chuckle. I gripped the handle and got the door open on my second attempt. I didn’t look back, even when I wanted to. Closing it, I dropped the bags to the floor. My back hit the door, and I slid to the ground, wrapping my arms around my knees and burying my forehead against them.

Dread filled me, thinking about what tomorrow would bring.

How was I going to live through everything without combusting into a nervous pile of goo?

Not for the first time, I wished I had a bigger pair of balls.

Monthly MM Romance Round-up

Since MM Romance is a genre I read a fair bit of but don’t always publish a blog post for my reviews, I thought I might do a monthly round-up of any I have read for those who are interested.

Sink or Swim (Shore Leave #2) by Annabeth Albert

I absolutely loved book 2 in the Shore Leave series, Sink or Swim was another winner for me, after Sailor Proof which I also loved, I was really looking forward to Calder’s story.

Calder is a big gambler and when he wins a ski cabin in a poker game and heads up there to see what it’s like, he finds out he’s been taken for a ride in a divorce dispute with Felix’s ex-husband.

Calder and Felix make a fabulous couple, and despite both not wanting anything at all when they first meet, that changes when they both realise what they’ve been missing and what could be. They both had lots of issues to work through, but I liked that they communicated and didn’t get bogged down in misunderstandings. I loved that Calder was the braver one, willing to fight for what he wanted all the way through, realising that despite not looking for love or ‘feelings’, what he had found was worth keeping. Their intimate relationship builds and is different in the bedroom compared to many, I really appreciated that Felix and Calder were so on the same page and that they both understood each sexual relationship is unique to that couple. I could really feel the closeness and emotions that passed between these to MC’s.

Felix’s nieces, Madeline and Charlotte were both great additions to the story and added a lot to their relationship. I especially enjoyed Charlotte, she was such a wonderful character and I felt I got to know her better than her quieter sister.

I did like catching up with Derrick & Arthur and seeing how their relationship was going. This can easily be read as a standalone, but you’ll be missing out if you don’t read Sailor Proof too. I look forward to seeing what Annabeth Alberth brings us next.

Thanks to NetGalley and Carina Adores for a digital copy in return for an honest review.

The Trouble With Trying To Date A Murderer by Jennifer Cody

I didn’t quite know what to expect with this, it was definitely a unique concept and being a Jennifer Cody novel that is a given, and the verdict, I LOVED this so much. Full of humour and heart, I just adored Romily (who wouldn’t) is non-verbal and I fell for Fox too as he fell for Romily. I loved how Romily who was non-verbal, was able to convey so much with just a look and loved that Fox got him straight away. With body parts flying and blood getting Romily’s clothes messy, these two were made for each other, and as Romily notes from the get-go, Fox is his ‘Future Husband’ for sure. This book is too good to give anything much away, so I recommend you pick it up and find out all about how hard it is trying to date a murderer. This was a great read and I can’t wait for more.

Egotistical Puckboy by Eden Finley & Saxon James

Egotistical Puckboy (Puckboys #1) was a really enjoyable start to a new series. I really enjoyed these authors’ previous collaboration with the CU Hockey series and this new one didn’t disappoint.

Click here for the full review.

Wicked Heat by Ella Frank

Wicked Heat is book 1 of 2 about MCs Ryan and Jameson in a 4 book series. Wicked heat is a spin-off series from a couple of Ella Frank’s other series, I’ve met several of the characters before and now want to go back and meet the ones in the books I’ve missed.

Ryan, a sunshiney, outwardly outgoing PA for Prime-time news anchor Alexander (from the Prime TIme series), is a character I immediately loved. Jameson a firefighter (at the same precinct that Keiran from Dare to Try series recently left) who prefers to keep himself to himself and not make friends or have relationships is taciturn in his nature towards everyone.

Click here for the full review.

Code Blue by N.R Walker

Wow, I didn’t want to put this novel down. Following on from Code Red, this book focuses on band member Jeremy and Atrous’ head of security Steve. The story is told from Steve’s perspective and what a story it is. I really enjoyed Code Red, but I enjoyed Code Blue even more. And the fact it’s over 400 pages is just awesome, I do enjoy a long book I can really sink my teeth into.

Steve is gay but has kept this undercover, he’s had a thing for Jeremy for a while, but Jeremy is straight and why would he look at Steve, except he does and Jeremy is confused and angry about what he is feeling and he takes it out on Steve for a while as well as some self-destructive behaviour, as he tries to work through what is going on. Oh, I did love these two, they worked so well together, I loved Jeremy to bits and Steve was my hero.

Capture (Shattered Pawns #2) by Jennifer Cody

I am loving this series just as much as The Diviner’s Game series which is set in the same universe with many of the same characters. Capture, the second book in the Shattered Pawns series was brilliant, I really don’t know how Jennifer Cody manages to come up with the storylines, theme and plot, so amazingly twisted and intricately orchestrated, each story though happening at the same time frame, building on to the previous one, giving us more information without rehashing everything that happened with the other characters.

I adored Qis and Monet, these two were definitely made for each other and though I don’t understand the whole pain/pleasure/comfort kink, I know there’s a kink out there for everyone, and Monet was made for showing Qis what it was he needed. There are some very hot and interesting and kinky sex scenes that had me wondering whether they were actually possible, I’m assured they definitely are and I have a fabulous imagination so I didn’t need to check it out for myself.

I love the whole Aquino family and enjoy my time with them every novel. You do need to have read Pass (read my review here) before reading Capture for maximum enjoyment as they each build on to the story. There are gods, fighting, intrigue and danger for everyone and these guys are going to learn who they really are and what they are capable of when it all hits the fan.

I can’t wait for book 3 when we find out how it all ends and we get to see how Kim and Ryan get together.

Restored Ruins by G.R Lyons

This turned out to be a fun and original read which pulled at my emotions at times and had me grinning at others. In my first book by G.R Lyons, I enjoyed his writing and I enjoyed the characters and the world he has created in this new paranormal/speculative fiction MMM romance series Gentleman Hackers.

I really liked Connor, a young man who has been rejected all his life, he is of a different race, one who has the gift of telepathy/telekinesis and also the ability to change himself on a genetic level. Connor was a lonely soul who hid behind his computers as a way of protecting himself from more rejection. He also had a fun sassy side to him which comes out after he is kidnapped by Brendan after he finds he has hacked into his webcam.

My Review

What a great introduction to both this author and this series. I adored both of the MCs, Connor and Logan.

When these two meet the attraction is instant, when Logan shuts down anything happening with Connor I was holding back tears for them both, but I could really feel Connor’s hurt and my heart hurt for him, he’d put himself out there and got kicked to the kerb.

When it comes time for them to meet again 5 years down the track, I was reading with my fingers crossed the whole time. Two people from such different backgrounds, but who after 5 years had not let go of the connection they shared for that one night, and who were still instantly aware of each other, I could only hope that as things spiralled back and forward and as the dramas around Sapphire Cove unfolded and played out, that Connor and Logan could manage to create something wonderful between them. While both Logan and Connor came from different backgrounds, both carried their own baggage given to them by their families, in learning to love each other, they both needed to look at their pasts and put down the baggage and see it for what it is.

While the romance and chemistry between Connor and Logan were wonderful, the villains in the story were anything but. Connor’s uncle, Rodney, who from the get-go was an awful person and a wronged widow looking for someone to blame, these characters showed how easy it is to destroy people’s lives and businesses through blackmail and the power of social media.

There was plenty going on throughout this novel and there wasn’t a moment where I felt I was bored at all, I couldn’t stop reading, needing to know what was going to happen next and whether they were going to be able to pull both the hotel and their relationship out of the fire.

I am really looking forward to the next book in the Sapphire Cove series.

Excerpt

“Wow.” Logan’s voice echoed through the rocky chamber.
Here, the sounds of the ocean surf softened into something that was more like a
gurgling brook. What whitecaps the cave’s mouth captured were filtered down into
something frothy and inviting amidst the labyrinth of low rocks within. The basic security
lights at foot level threw a soft golden light across the metal struts that secured the rock
ceiling overhead.
“I used to come here all the time as a kid with my friends,” Connor said nervously.
“There’re all kinds of caverns back here we used to play and hide in before my mom
found out and busted us. She still has no idea they don’t go that deep. She still thinks
you could get lost in here. But I’ve got an excellent sense of direction.”
“Do you?”
“Yeah, I usually know where things are headed.”
“Makes sense, I guess. Your life’s kinda laid out for you, right? You’ll probably run this
place someday, right? Heir apparent and all that.”
“Oh, God. Do they still call me the prince?” Connor turned, resting his butt against the
guardrail so he could focus on Logan.
“Kinda.”
“Is that a good thing? Should I be annoyed by that?”
“Better to be the prince than a peasant, I guess,” Logan said.
“Are those really the only two choices?”
Logan laughed, but there was relief in it. As if Connor’s snarky response had shined a
light on possibilities he hadn’t seen before now. “I guess not.”
“Whatever. I’ll let it go.”
Silence then, save for the gurgling of the sea pushing its way past them and deeper into
the cave.
Connor rested his elbows on the rail on either side of him, an attempt to look casual
even though the sight of Logan leaning against the cave wall, hands in his pockets,
studying Connor with a half smile made Connor feel welded in place. “All right, your
turn.”
“My turn for what?” Logan asked.
“I told you mine, and my grandpa’s. What’s your magic moment?”
“Okay.” Logan straightened. “So if I remember correctly, it’s like a moment when you’re
doing something you love and you feel the most satisfied by it. Is that right?”
“Exactly.” Connor was thrilled that Logan had listened so closely.
“Well, my life is kind of starting over, so I’m kind of figuring out what it is I love to do.
Kickboxing’s up there, but that’s more of a fast and furious kind of thing, and the high is
mostly when I’m done. Not sure there’s really a magic hour there. There was some stuff
about the Marines that I loved, especially once I was a staff sergeant and I was in the
zone for gunnery sergeant. But a lot of it was tough, and a lot to hold.”
“I’m sure.”
When Logan started toward him through the shadows, Connor’s breath caught. His feet
felt planted to the boards, and the sides of his face got tingly and hot.
“So if I had to pick,” Logan said, “I’d pick this one.”
“Walking rounds?”
“No. I’d pick the moment when I’m finally all alone with a guy who drives me wild, and I
know we’re about to kiss, but I’m not sure when. So there’s this tension in the air, and I
can feel it. Everywhere.”
They were inches apart now, so close Connor had to look up at him to maintain eye
contact.
“And we’re both circling, waiting for the right moment. And I’m trying to take it kinda slow
because I know one little touch”—Logan gently grazed Connor’s cheek with the side of
one finger—“and it might turn into a lot more than a kiss. But first, there’s a promise to
be kept.”
“What promise is that?” Connor asked in a squeaky whisper.
“I believe you promised me a dance.”
“Or you promised me one.”
“Either way, seems like time.”

Monthly MM Romance Round-up

Since MM Romance is a genre I read a fair bit of but don’t always publish a blog post for my reviews, I thought I might do a monthly round-up of any I have read for those who are interested.

His Fresh Start Cowboy by A.M. Arthur

I really enjoyed this first book in the new Woods Ranch series which is a spin-off from Clean Slate Ranch. I liked Hugo a lot and really felt for him, all he’d been through with his family and having to leave because the situation became untenable. When he applies for the job back in Texas at his old friend’s ranch, he knows returning home after a decade away will be hard, I thought it was a brave move, both to try and rebuild a relationship with his mother, knowing it might not go as he hoped and facing his teen crush who would now be his boss.

I liked Brand also, he’s been hiding his sexuality from everyone but a couple of people his whole life and Hugo’s return could put that in jeopardy, or it could free him to live a better life. There’s a bit of toing and froing about whether they would get together or try to have any sort of relationship that isn’t boss and employee and at times I wished they’d both just wake up to themselves, especially Brand because Hugo knows what he wants.

There was some off-page (past) and on-page family abuse, mainly emotional and verbal and I really felt for Hugo at these times. It is during these times he will find out who his true friends are and it will help with the decisions about where his life is going to go.

I liked the chemistry between Hugo and Brand and enjoyed them getting to know each other and seeing what happened between them.

I’m looking forward to the next book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Carina Press for a digital copy in return for an honest review.

HIS BOY TO RIDE (Naughty Or Nice: Season Two)

This was a really sweet read and my first in this Naughty or Nice series. Orson and Gentry were meant for each other, you could tell that from the start, each searching for the perfect person to complement their needs. Orson made such a sweet Daddy for Gentry and Gentry was the perfect boy for Orson. I thought the way Gentry’s mother took Orson into her family was lovely too, he needed that even if he didn’t realise it beforehand. I liked that their roles in bed weren’t usual for this type of relationship (well, from the books I’ve read so far anyway). There was so much to like about this book, a lovely feel-good romance with no angst (which I loved). I loved all of the characters in this book and hope Jamie will write Gentry’s brother’s stories at some point.

Mountain Topped

I enjoyed this sweet, steamy read. I really liked all three of the characters, but maybe Aldis a smidge more if I had to pick a favourite. I liked the way these three worked through their feelings, both emotional and physical. I thought Hawthorne came to terms with his new feelings for Bowen very quickly, but at the same time liked that he didn’t angst over them too much. Maybe if we all took things like this in our stride we wouldn’t have as many hangups. It was good to read another take on a poly relationship, and I liked the way Aldis wanted Bowen to be happy even if it might mean him losing him to Hawthorn. Things moved quickly and smoothly from the first hookup through to the end, but this is fiction and I’m ok with that

Roommate Arrangement (Divorced Men's Club, #1)

The first in the Divorced Men’s Club series, I really liked Payne and Beau and really loved this feel-good, low angst story. Both of these characters are older than many of the romance novels out there, Beau in his late 30s and Payne who was 40, which I liked, it’s nice to see life goes on and you don’t have to be in your 20s to find true love.

Payne who has split with his husband and returned to his hometown to get over it, lacking a place to stay, ends up staying with Beau, his brother’s best friend who has had a crush on him since they were teens (Payne has no idea)

I really enjoyed the friendship and connection these two complete opposites formed and that was allowed to morph into much more without either realising what was happening. I liked the way they worked through things together and communicated, (something so many novels seem to avoid and something that drives me nuts) talking things through and working things out so that things didn’t implode between them. The chemistry between them was hot and they were so sweet with each other, that I finished the book with a happy feeling for this odd couple who worked so well together.

To Love and Protect

Oh, I did enjoy this novel. It had everything, humour, snark, action, bad guys and two MC’s who were imperfectly perfect for each other.

I really liked both Marcus and Adrian. Marcus’ job as a Marshall was one he took super seriously, as was his rule of not getting into emotional entanglements, both of which he’s managed very well until he meets Adrian. Adrian is under his protection, in hiding from an ex who is part of organised crime.

I really enjoyed their interactions, from where Adrian was doing all he could to push Marcus’ buttons to when they took the chance on something unexpected.

There were plenty of action scenes, violence and shootings, and I liked how these two worked together to try and get through everything that was thrown at them.

This was a book I didn’t want to put down and one I finished with a smile on my face.

As the Tallgrass Grows (Wild Ones, #4)

Another great book in the Wild Ones series, I really enjoyed Johnny and Owen’s romance and I loved catching up with Dylan and Bo, now in their 70s and 50 years odd into their relationship and still totally in love, we get a chance to see how they have been travelling since we finished their story in book #3.

I really liked getting to know Johnny Robbie’s brother whose story we read in books #1 & #2 where we meet him fleetingly, so it was nice to finally get to know him and what he’d been through and what has led him to Dylan and Bo’s ranch beside the fact he is their long lost nephew. He has certainly been through a lot and I liked he was able to show his true self to Owen.

Owen is an honorary nephew of Dylan and Bo’s and though he is at first dismayed to find Johnny at the ranch, as he gets to know him, things develop and grow between them. I really enjoyed seeing them learn about each other and in turn learn about themselves and gain confidence in who they were and what they deserve. Owen’s parents certainly weren’t the sort of people I would wish on anyone.

There are plenty of emotional moments as Johnny, Owen, Dylan and Bo get to know each other and a few secrets to uncover that change some things and explain others for Johnny and Owen.

I personally would read this series in order, but you can jump in with this one, though I think you’ll get more from it if you read the others, you’ll want to read them after anyway.

Blog Tour & New Release Book Review: Triple Beat by Ann Grech

Review

I enjoyed Triple Beat by Ann Grech, I really loved the relationship between Mike and Ezio which developed fast and furious and hot and completely unexpectedly between the two while Mike is holidaying on a cruise ship. Ezio breaks rules to be with Mke, but it ends too soon and neither knows how to contact the other.

Later Mike meets Robyn and they become friends and then more, but he never stops loving Ezio. I have to say that I wasn’t as caught up in Mike’s relationship with Robyn as I was with Ezio until Ezio comes back into the picture.
Ezio’s relationship with Mike completely tugged at my heartstrings and I so wanted them to find each other again and work things out.
Robyn really shows what a great person she is with the way she deals with Ezio’s return and Mike’s feelings for him.

I loved these three together and I really loved the ending of this romance, I do like it when things work out for the best.

About the Author

By day Ann Grech lives in the corporate world and can be found sitting behind a desk typing away at reports and papers or lecturing to a room full of students. She graduated with a PhD in 2016 and is now an over-qualified nerd. Glasses, briefcase, high heels and a pencil skirt, she’s got the librarian look nailed too. If only they knew! She swears like a sailor, so that’s got to be a hint. The other one was “the look” from her tattoo artist when she told him that she wanted her kids initials “B” and “J” tattooed on her foot. It took a second to register that it might be a bad idea.

She’s never entirely fit in and loves escaping into a book—whether it’s reading or writing one. But she’s found her tribe now and loves her MM book world family. She dislikes cooking, but loves eating, can’t figure out technology, but is addicted to it, and her guilty pleasure is Byron Bay Cookies. Oh and shoes. And lingerie. And maybe handbags too. Well, if we’re being honest, we’d probably have to add her library too given the state of her credit card every month (what can she say, she’s a bookworm at heart)!

She also publishes her raunchier short stories under her pen name, Olive Hiscock.
