Over on instagram I was inspired by an author and blogger to post a book stack of books I want to finally get to this year. It was really hard to just pick 21 as I have so many I’ve bought over the last few years that are still waiting.

These are the ones I picked and to try and keep myself on track with getting them read, I thought I’d make a post about them and post about each one as I read it. Hopefully, but the end of the year at the very latest I’ll have made my way through the whole pile.

Are there any in this pile you’ve read or want to read?

My first one will be Father of the Lost Boys by Yuot A. Alaak a South Sudanese refugee who now lives in Perth. This is his memoir and I’m going to hear him talk next week as part of the City of Perth Literature Festival (provided we aren’t still in lock down).

I am an avid reader who will read just about anywhere I can. I have over 1200 books on my shelves and 700 on my kindle and a TBR pile I doubt I will ever get through. I have a preference for Australian authors, but still, read many others. I read a large variety of genres and love learning about other peoples cultures and experiences through fiction. I am an Art Therapist at Healing heART Therapy, a disability support worker, and work in a nursery. What a great stack Claire! I’ve only read The Gift of Life by Josephine Moon and Cross My Heart by Pamela Cook and thoroughly enjoyed both. A couple there are on my wishlist including Phospherence by Julia Baird. Happy reading!

  Thanks, I’m looking forward to reading the two you’ve already read and have heard so many great things about Phosphorescence, it’s been next to my bed for nearly a year, but I’ve only managed one chapter until now. I’ve been read ING Father of the Lost Boys all morning, I can’t even begin to imagine what they went through. I was 13/14 years of age when all of this was happening and I had absolutely no knowledge of it at all. I still didn’t until now.

What a great idea! I recognise a few familiar titles: The Mercies, The Foundling, The Familiars, and Gulliver’s Wife to name a few, all of which I enjoyed. Have you got a list?

  I thought I might just go down the pile one at a time, unless a particular one takes my fancy. The pile will get smaller and smaller. I’m hoping I can make a space to leave it piled up. I’m glad you enjoyed those 4, I’m planning on reading The Mercies next.

This is a great idea Claire! I really want to get into some of my backlist in 2021 but I can’t see it happening. I’m a really slow reader and I keep buying more books.

  I know the feeling. Luckily I can’t afford to buy any new books and I very rarely go near a shop these days. I do have to stop requesting new books from the library however, I’m always asking them to buy them in. I’m determined to get through this pile.
